 The high riding Crosstrek with 8.7 inches of ground clearance is sitting on the new Subaru Global Platform that will form the basis for nearly all of Subaru's vehicles.  This new system allows Subaru to get more creative with its suspension and steering.  Along with this new platform comes a new engine that has a 2.0-liter flat-four setup that delivers more horses and torque with direct injection  It is mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission that gives you one additional gear to play with; if you prefer not to throw your own gears, then a continuously variable automatic transmission is available.  The CVT has Subaru's stepped-gear function to make it feel and sound like a traditional geared transmission.  Of course all-wheel drive is standard because it is a Subaru. 

The Crosstrek for 2018 also has the new X-Mode low-speed off-road system.  When activated at speeds below 13 mph, the X-Mode changes throttle, stability control, traction control and all-wheel drive settings to let you get out of those difficult off-road situations.  It will also allow your Crosstrek to descend those slopes with electronic hill descent control. This new feature is so cool, that you just allow the computer to do its job.  On the outside, the new and larger Crosstrek ups it's handsome and rugged looks with a lower handsome grill and new cat eye designed headlights in its wide and assertive stance.  The new gloss black rear spoiler adds a classy touch to the new design.
